New Year - Keeping that dream alive

So it’s that time of year again!

Promises to change, resolutions, dreams and aspirations abound
-    this is the year when it’s all going to happen!
GOALS ARE SET TO ACHIEVE THE LIFE that dreams are made of, but how often do they disappear into thin air by the end of February?

The slender and sylph like figure has not quite materialised; the credit card statement has just arrived – and it’s no better than last february’s horror story; the same job awaits from Monday to Friday; the dream holiday to the Seychelles gives way to a week in the caravan at skeg; and so it goes on.

But we can all achieve anything we believe in as long as we believe we can achieve it!

If you believe you really deserve more in life, take a tip from local life coach, Diana Yates, who offers the following tips to unleash your potential in 2010

  • Look at all areas of your life- social life, relationship, health & fitness, work & finances & decide exactly what you want to achieve in each area.
  • Then, dare to dream that you will achieve it all! Really see, hear & feel what your life will look like. Talk about it to other people.
  • Be positive, keep enthusiastic and laugh a lot. Keep looking to your future and don’t dwell on the past. It’s a well documented fact that people who look on the positive side tend to be more successful, live longer and are healthier.
  • Speak positively about yourself at all times and acknowledge your achievements.
  • Act as if you already are who you want to be. Dress the part. Work on your posture, body language and voice to create a confident image.
  • Increase your social circle. Take risks, start conversations, plan a party or an event.
  • SMILE – remember, other people give you the value you give yourself! We make up our minds about others in the first 20 seconds of meeting, so make sure you give the right impression.
  • Get to know yourself – you can’t change what you don’t acknowledge.
  • Ask 5 and trusted friends “what do you consider to be my greatest strength and weakness?” – be prepared to face the truth and change the bits about yourself, which are not working so well for you.
  • Get used to moving outside your comfort zones. Resolve to do something new or different every week. You will be more and more successful in your life, when you release your fear of the unknown and give yourself a go. When life gets too predictable, you tend to stop putting in any effort.
  • The one thing ALL successful people have in common is that they have FAILED many times. Get used to welcoming mistakes as lessons learned.
